In collaboration with the Imaging Institute, the Radiology Internship Program was designed to expand high school student’s knowledge of and exposure to the wide range of career paths the field of radiology has to offer at Cleveland Clinic. This is one of the leading academic medical centers in the country. Its community hospitals and family health centers are well-known all over the USA.

This nine-week, paid internship provides top Northeast Ohio high school students with the opportunity to work and learn alongside experienced radiology professionals at Cleveland Clinic and its facilities in areas such as :

The goal of the program is to provide selected students who have an interest in the career field of Radiology with individually structured, full-time, radiology-related learning experiences during the summer. Interns have garnered and accepted considerable scholarship awards at top universities and institutions such as:

MRI Internship

Six-Month Internships in MRI is a full-time internship that combines clinical with didactic information and is intended for those technologists who are serious about pursuing a career in MRI.

Course curricula & clinical competency follows guidelines of the Associated Educators in Radiological Sciences, AERS & the Section for Magnetic Resonance Technologists, SMRT. The objective of the 6-month internship, is to provide the technologist with a firm understanding of the principles of MRI as well as clinical experience (the clinical practicum). Upon completion of this program the technologist will be prepared to pass the MR boards and gain employment in MRI.

The didactic portion of this course includes 5 one-week fellowship programs along with the weekend registry review program, both described in the brochure below, for a total of 135 hours of classroom activity.

The clinical practicum includes 19 weeks or 665 hours of clinical imaging. Clinical rotations are completed on:

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP):

  • One 1.5T GE HD Excite
  • Two 1.5T GE LX
  • Four 1.5T Siemens Espree
  • One 1.5T Siemens Avanto
  • Two 3T Siemens Trio
  • Two 1.5T Siemens Verio
  • One 1.5T Siemens Essenza
  • One 1.5T Siemens Sonata
  • The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP):
  • Three 1.5T Siemens systems
  • Two 3.0T Siemens Trio

Penn Medicine at Radnor:

  • One 1.5T Signa Excite HD

Requirements for Acceptance:

The minimum requirement for acceptance into the MRI internship program is that the applicant be registered by the ARRT in either Radiography (R.T. (R)), Nuclear Medicine (R.T. (N)), or in Radiation Therapy (R.T. (RT)). Subsequent to the internship, the technologist will be required to take the Advanced level examination in MRI offered by the ARRT. Mayo School of Health Sciences Radiologic Technology Internship

Mayo School of Health Sciences (MSHS) at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., offers a 6-8 month Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship. The internship is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of post-graduate radiography students.
Program interns will receive technological training in thoracic, visceral, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, neurologic, and peripheral diagnosis and intervention for vascular and non-vascular systems.

It’s very important to underline that at Mayo Clinic in Florida, the Vascular Interventional Radiologic Internship Program aspires to prepare individuals for a career in vascular interventional radiography by providing a high-quality curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, a diverse patient population, and a favorable faculty-to-student ratio, all in an environment supporting the service values of the institution.

You should keep in mind that for the majority of the internship, your didactic instruction and clinical rotation schedule will include eight-hour days, five days per week.

Through the entirety of the Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship you will be scheduled full-time in the Mayo Clinic Department of Radiology.

Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., is a comprehensive medical facility providing advanced programs in education and research, which support the highest-quality patient care. Campus activity is conducted around the Mayo Clinic hospital and interconnected Davis, Mayo and Cannaday buildings.

The ambulatory facilities provide clinical services ranging from primary to specialty care and advanced procedures. Mayo Clinic hospital provides comprehensive inpatient services, including surgical and medical intensive care units, specialized solid-organ transplant units, and advanced cardiac and neurosurgery facilities.

When you successfully complete the Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technology Internship, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Mayo School of Health Sciences.

Graduates will be eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) VI registry, which provides graduates nationally recognized credentials to practice vascular interventional radiology. Individual states may have other requirements.
Mayo School of Health Sciences’ Vascular Interventional Radiologic Internship Program is currently a non-accredited program.
Mayo Foundation is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission.
